After two years since the marae was yellow-stickered following Cyclone Gabrielle, the hapu put in an immense effort in the clean-up of the Mōteo Marae. It was transformed into a beautiful and fully functional wharenui, wharekai, and kitchen. For many years the marae had been worn and tired but nowadays, it was not only revitalised from the supporting funding received but is now truly stunning. The kitchen, in particular, surpassed any marae kitchen in our rohe that we have had the privilege of cooking in during our wānanga.
