Tēnei te mihi ki a koutou e te whānau.
Was great to meet you all. In case you have forgotten, my name is Dr Charlotte Mildon and I fly in from Hawke’s Bay once a month to work with the whānau doing the parenting program with the Ohomairangi Trust in Auckland. I feel very privileged to have had my neice working with me who has been one of my students studying Te Oomai Reia Romiromi and Rongoā Māori for the last few years. It is a life time journey learning how to heal yourself so nau mai haere mai as we share some of the things we went over during our wānanga.
The content is set out over the last two wāanga we have provided and the Quizz has just been uploaded to help our whānau retain the knowledge shared during wānanga which is a more fun to remember the content of traditional Māori healing over the next few months. Click on the answers until you see the ‘Miharo’ icon which means ‘chuur pretty neat alright – you got it right’!

This site will showcase some of the content we went over on Monday. I have managed to set up a chat on this platform for your group as well, however, I don’t know how to use it yet so we might have to learn things together. The chat will enable you to put comments on here around different topics and you could ask a question or add a reflection of anything you would like to learn more about. The purpose of this app content is to support each of you to retain the knowledge we cover during and after wānanga.
The body of traditional Māori healing is very wide and is quite deep in terms of spiritual metaphysical terms. So, feel free to ask questions or to have a go at answering somebody’s questions if you can. You can access the app by clicking on the link for the Ohomairangi wānanga on your phone at any time. Please remember not to put any of this content on social media or tik tok, pictures as well as our healing philosophies. Our ancestors went to great lengths to keep this content safe for our future generations of mokopuna kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) rather than publishing it somewhere on social media. Please keep our ancient healing knowledge safe. Like whakapapa, it is not to be used when we eat and drink food as it is tapu (sacred) knowledge.
Please find the first board below with some of the notes that whānau had listed what they wanted to learn more about in traditional Māori healing. While some of you had no idea what this was, there were some of you who were quite specific with your needs and so I work at tailoring the program to your needs and answering the some of the ask questions you raised that were of interest to you.

Board One Content
1. Cellular Memory
2. Whatumanawa – Eye of the Heart / Mind
3. FEMALE: Left side of the Body MALE: right side of the body
4. Different body parts.
a. Hamstrings – heart.
b. Thighs – relationships.
c. BUTT – pain in the arse.
d. Calves – childhood memories.
e. Feet – power source.
f. Chest – grief.
(showed master point for depression in the chest)
G. Lower back – poharatanga – lack of abundance
Koo Te Whatumanawa

Koo te Whatumanawa – (the eye of the heart) is situated in between the eyes. It is a place of ‘being, knowing, prophecy, senses, see, smell, feel, and hear to name a few. There are many different colours when we close our eyes and breath so we can access the whatumanawa. However, we have to breathe deeply and slowly without any intentions in order to read the memories as an intuitive diagnosis of the memories held in the body. We do this by going feet to feet to the person we are working with so we can go into the whatumanawa and see, feel, hear and know these things that are unseen to the naked eye. Sometimes we will get picture of a scene or smell something or hear, sense, feel or smell something.
This is called being in the nothingness, the zen, a place of neutrality or using zero energy to access the whatumanawa = third eye.

During the whatumanawa exercise where whanau were feet to feet, some shared different colours included purple, blue, green circles, lime green, yellow, black, red, grey, dark brown and yellow stripes. Below is Board 2 which shows the different things people were experiencing in the whatumanawa session.

Some described shapes like jagged, shadows, spirits, kehua, wairua, triangles, circles, and electric sparks.

There were also emotions felt like sadness, anger, happy and anxiety. One felt their son and likened this to hurt and heart in missing him.

During this session, accessing the whatumanawa, there were many who had experienced a purple light, otherwise known in traditional Māori healing as the Kahukura – the violet flame of healing.
Tumatauenga: The Keeper of the Violet Flame

The keeper of the violet flame being Tumatauenga, the God of people, rather than the colonised version of him being the God of War. Tumatauenga residing in the right side of the brain to govern the FEMALE side of the body (left side) which is the spiritual side of the body otherwise known as being about the feminine intuition, creativity, and the passion in life.
Rongo the twin flame of Tumatauenga

The corresponding Atua (female) of Tumatauenga being his twin flame, Rongo, who resides on the left side of the brain, governing the male side of the body (right side) that is about the strength, determination, courage and one’s ability to take the lead.
Taa Miri: Intuitive Diagnosis
This image is an example of seeing the imbalances in the body where the body is crooked. We cannot always see our own bodies so have no idea what it looks like but you all got an opportunity to witness this first hand at our wānanga.

Accessing the whatumanawa, we can see the memories that are sitting in the cellular memory of the body where people may have suffered from emotional, physical and spiritual experiences such as grief, sadness, trauma, violence, and spiritual afflictions that can cause mental, emotional, spiritual and physical imbalances.

Opening up the different parts of the body with romiromi helps to release these memories so that we are no longer affected by these memories.

By doing an intuitive diagnosis we are able to see where these memories are being held, some of which can go right back to our childhood that keep us trapped in the experience so that we continue to create the same themes in our lives over and over again. Below is Board 3 of the content of Wānanga One.

Once we can see where the memory is located in the body, we can use our feet, hands to open it up and release the memory/memories that are causing the imbalance. In the slideshow you will see different ones feeling the tummy as when there is a ngangara this area is usually hard.
The shifting or removal of entities within the body is a very tapu (sacred) practice carried out only by Tohunga who are specifically trained in this area. These Tohunga are typically taught from a very young age and, more often than not, descend from a long line of Tohunga through their whakapapa.
Among the many different types of Tohunga (priests or priestesses), including Tohunga Ahurewa (priests or priestesses of a higher order), and Tohuna – (those who sow the seeds of ancient healing knowledge), only a few specialize in the shifting of ngangara (entities). I have been privileged to be mentored by the calibre of priests and priestesses and very few of them work in the area of shifting ngangara (entities).
While this is all for now, please remember that when we do another wananga, hopefully each month while you are doing the parenting program then we will post up more content here.
Have a think about what you would like to focus on for when we meet next e te whānau.
Laughter is often the best form of healing so laugh long and laugh often e hoa ma! Life is too short to waste it on being unhappy.

Kia Ora ano e te whanau
Great to see you all again. Just to recap of what we went over, here are the writings from the board.
Western medicine often relies on synthetic drugs and calls that “health.” But Indigenous healing focuses on actually healing the root cause, not just covering up the problem.
Learning about natural options can be really empowering. But it might mean changing what you eat and drink, and using things like water, food, herbs, spices, and teas to support your health. It’s often easier and cheaper to just get another $3 prescription but those usually don’t fix the real issue. In fact, they can create more problems that lead to even more medications.
Drinking Water
One of the biggest healers that costs nothing is drinking water, becoming sugar free, gluten free and dairy free.
